“Conservation District Supervisors play an important role in how our county deals with natural resource management issues including wetlands, water quality, soil erosion, and overall environmental concerns.” says John Maile, Stearns CD Administrator. “Serving as a Supervisor is a rewarding opportunity for people who want a voice in how we manage our environment.”

SCD Supervisors are elected to full four-year terms by the voters during general elections. The Board meets monthly to discuss business, including conservation priorities, financial allocations to projects, coordination with other local units of government and state agencies, and legislative priorities. Supervisors do not receive a salary but do receive compensation for attending meetings and expense reimbursements.

Conservation Districts are special purpose units of government that manage and lead conservation programs at the local level. Important programs and priorities of the SCD include soil health, water quality, wildlife habitat and protection, and other related resources. An elected Board of Supervisors governs every Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) in Minnesota.

Those who are interested in running for a Supervisor position must file from May 19th-June 2nd with the Stearns County Auditor-Treasurer at the Stearns County Courthouse in downtown St. Cloud (705 Courthouse Square, Room 148. Contact: 320-656-3920 or elections@stearnscountymn.gov). If you have questions or would like additional information, please contact the Stearns Conservation District office at 320-251-7800 ext. 3.
