Sauk Lake Shoreline Stabilization

This project consisted of shoreline stabilization on Sauk Lake. This project was completed in 2001 and is located in the Sauk River Watershed.

YEAR COMPLETED:

2001

MAJOR WATERSHED:

Sauk River

This site is adjacent to the Sauk River, had a severely eroded slope approximately 30 feet in vertical elevation. The slope was re‐ graded and stabilized with a combination of field stone rock riprap, cedar tree revetments, willow/dogwood stakes, willow/dogwood brush bundles, native grass and wildflower seeding, as well as tree and shrub planting.  These bio‐ engineering techniques were very successful in stabilizing and establishing the slope to a more naturalized state.

Components:

  • Cedar Tree Revetments

  • Willow/Dogwood Stakes

  • Willow/Dogwood Bundles

  • Field Stone Riprap

  • Erosion Control Blanket

  • Planting of Trees, Shrubs

  • Native Grasses and Wildflowers

Benefits:

  • Sediment Reduction

  • Habitat Value

  • Protect Property

  • Water Quality Improvement

Pollution Reduction Estimates:

  • Phosphorus: 37.6 lbs./yr

  • Sediment: 32.71 tons/yr

Partners on the project included the landowner, West Central TSA, MN DNR, Sauk River Watershed District, and Stearns County ESD.
