Middle Spunk Lake Shoreline Restoration

Project After Restoration
Year Completed:
2025
Major Watershed:
Sauk River
A landowner with property located in the city of Avon on Middle Spunk Lake, got into contact with the Stearns Conservation District because they wanted to restore their shoreline. The property had major retaining walls across the whole shoreline which needed to be removed as a part of the restoration. During project construction, these walls were removed and the site topography was restored.
Native vegetation including grasses, wildflowers, trees, and shrubs were planted along the shoreline at least 25 feet landward from the lake. A minimal traffic area to the dock and water was maintained. This restoration will help improve the water quality of Middle Spunk Lake in addition to improving water infiltration. The shoreline also provides a naturally pleasing aesthetic look along with providing wildlife habitat.
