Cedar Island Lake Shoreline Stabilization

After Shoreline Stabilization on Cedar Island Lake

Year Completed:

2009

Major Watershed:

Sauk River

This project combined a unique design and implementation which took care of an existing gully as well as erosion along the shoreline.  Cedar Tree Revetments were used to stabilize the shoreline and allow the native vegetation to establish.  The landowners desired to leave a large area along the shoreline natural and not mowed.

Components:

  • Native vegetation

  • Cedar tree revetments

  • Gully stabilization

Benefits:

  • Erosion control

  • Reduced water runoff

  • Sediment and nutrient reduction

  • Fish and wildlife habitat

Pollution Reduction Estimates:

  • Phosphorus: 6 lbs./yr

  • Sediment: 6 tons/yr

Partners on the project included the landowner, Stearns Conservation District, MN DNR, and the MN Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR).
