Big Fish Lake Shoreline Stabilization

After Shoreline Restoration on Big Fish Lake

Year Completed:

2016

Major Watershed:

Sauk River

The project involved the removal of a failing retaining wall, and grading and restoring the slope with native vegetation. This made a nice connection with the existing aquatic vegetation in this area of the lake.  The landowner expanded the native planting and created an infiltration basin on their own to deal with runoff that was draining to the lake from the road, driveway and home on the property.

Components:

  • Retaining wall removal

  • Maintenance contract

  • Erosion control blanket

  • Native vegetation

Benefits:

  • Sediment reduction

  • Erosion control

  • Reduced water runoff

  • Fish and wildlife habitat

Pollution Reduction Estimates:

  • Phosphorus: 0.3 lbs./yr

  • Sediment: 0.3tons/yr

Partners on the project included the landowner, Stearns Conservation District, and the MN DNR.
