Operation Description:

  • Beef and Cash Crop. Owns 161 acres and rents other land. Also custom pumps liquid manure.


Practice:

  • Rock Surfaced Stream Crossing

  • Livestock Exclusion/Access Control

  • Hayland Seeding


Components:

  • Heavy Use Area Protection: 3" recycled concrete Cl-5 (Hoof Contact Material) over 4" of 3/4 to 2" rock base over filter fabric

  • Silt Fence

  • Rock Rip Rap in Stream : 3" to 12" rock in base; gravel hoof contact on top

  • Fence

  • Perennial Cover Establishment: cool season grasses and legumes for stream bank stabilization and hay


Benefits:

  • Stream Bank Erosion Control

  • Reduce Nutrient and Bacterial Loading to Mill Creek

  • Reduced Nutrient Loading to Pearl Lake

  • Better Livestock Control Between Farmstead and the Back Pasture


Pollution Reduction Estimates:

  • Phosphorus: 8.17 lbs./yr.

  • Sediment: 6.95 T/yr.
