General Description: Pin cherry is known as an understory tree that is intolerant of shade. Another name for Pin cherry is Fire cherry for its rapid growth after a forest fire. Once the forest canopy closes out the sunlight, the pin cherry will drop abundant number of seeds and disappear from the forest floor until the next time sunlight reaches the forest floor again. Has a short life span of 25 to 35 years.
 
Other notes: Wilted leaves, stems and seeds are highly toxic if eaten.
 
Uses: Edible berry that can be used in jellies or wine.
